I would love to state that the summer is over. However, seeing as it never started I would be lying. And lying is wrong.
I spent a few days in Spain last week with my parents visiting my 94 year-old grandmother. It was great to see her but also very sad as, despite her confusion and rusty memory, she knew exactly what was going on and what she was waiting for.
I took, what I feel are, some wonderful pictures. I probably think so highly of them because I have a greater emotional affinity to them than I do most of my other photographs.
In the meantime, I played around with this elevator/lift transition which proved to be fun. For a few seconds. It may need refreshing/reloading.
It took a little time and a little practice, but the hot weather is finally here. As is the Curse of Big Brother ∞ (will it never end???)...but we won't talk about that.
On a slightly more interesting note, the pictures I took of Anna in Barcelona have been included in an online arts magazine called Medium Magazine. I guess it's nice to see your work somewhere other than your own computer or room.
Yes, well...the sun I mentioned in the previous entry has permanently disappeared. The weather resembles late October and just yesterday I thought, "Damn, I'll have to start Christmas shopping soon."
I have added a little photostory in the portfolio section. The pictures were taken in Barcelona during the Easter weekend. We stayed in the most bizarre and exuberantly kitsch guest house. The landlady, who emigrated from Ukraine 17 years ago, would spend the whole day in the guest house in the company of her pets, a three-month-old dog and a sleepy, grumpy cat. She mainly watched violent Ukranian gangster movies off the internet and heartily laugh all the way through them.
It was definitely an interesting place to stay!
On a geeky note, I've added a little PHP gimmick which (hopefully) rotates the header image at random. Hoorah!
It's suprisingly sunny. It's freakishly warm. All hail Global Warming!
Ha. Just kidding. No, I'm not. I am, I am.
Mostly Morons still not quite under way. My feeble attempts 6 months ago to create interesting characters, develop plots and simply draw/sketch/scribble highlighted my creative shortcomings. I have since sought help from books such as Making Comics and various drawing books. All of this is to say that hopefully soon I will be able to concretely develop Mostly Morons. Have a good weekend!
Hmph. Here are a couple of doodles for a Wednesday afternoon. They suck, but I still like them. As an aside, I have decided to stop this silly no-capitals writing, and am opting for the stylish and traditional Title Caps.
Here's a grumpy bear, who I think might need to be smoking a pipe or cigarette to look properly grumpy.
And this random one. Perhaps an inspiration for the Cynical Sister character of the soon to be born Mostly Morons comics. Bah.
Also, i want a Freitag bag, a custom-made one with, preferably, an example of Helvetica typography.
AT LAST! the photography section has been UPDATED! wow, who would have thought...
anyway, at the moment there are 4 albums/stories up. apart from the fact that not all photographs/albums have been uploaded, the ones currently live need some more editing, as well as captions. i needed something up there, though, i stayed far too long without an image portfolio on my site. i'll complete the section very soon, after which i'll consider starting work on the design section. hoorah!
well, last weekend was certainly unique! not only did amelie mauresmo spectacularly win wimbledon on saturday, but switzerland's federer won it on sunday for the fourth time, and then italy won the world cup! i couldn't believe! i went onto my balcony, and started screaming 'forza italia!!!', and then everybody yelled along with me, it was great! then in town it was even better! cars and scooters whizzing by with flags, and piccadilly, soho, and trafalgar were simply invaded by the fun, with everyone joining in! memorable! thanks to londoners for joining in and letting us borrow the city a night of celebrations!
on another note, it is hot and humid and this office is stuffy. although soon the A/C will be blasting, and i'll be complaining about that, too.
having problems with implementing the rest of my photography, as first i have to learn in actionscript how to tell flash to read only parts of the images xml file at a time, so that i can compile only one xml database for all my images, and also only one flash movie...argh, i wish i were a genius.
i have finally been able to put together the slideshow feature, which at the moment is only hosting the photographs from the belfast city of pain chronicle. more to come very soon, but probably not before cyprus. yes, i'm going to see the SUN! i shall feel warmth, and all will be good.
neeeeeeeeeeeearly complete? Hmmm. Have yet to complete the photo/design sections with some additional photography from belfast, but this approaching summer (at last!) has been distracting. i spent my birthday paris, aesthetically royal and amazing.
at last a real update, a real overhaul! say hi to my new friend CSS! the site is still very incomplete, but i had to get rid of the old pages! their coding was getting embarassing! so soon i will be adding the photography and design sections. hoorah.
have updated the site finally, simply by replacing and adding some pictures to the portfolio and a series of pictures i took whilst in france last week. it's so hot today. and monday i start my mew job. hoorah!
argh! desperately trying to update my site (or preferably give it a total overhaul), whilst doing work for other people, and also battling with browser compatibilities, and trying to embrace the wonder of CSS, and even after all that geekyness i still have loads more to do!
saw the island whilst trying to find things to do on the beautiful (but badly catered for the not-so-rich tourist) isle of wight. a movie hated by many (critics...do they count?) and enjoyed by few...i have to say i was one of the latter. although i did feel a little brand/logo-bashed (puma, nokia, xbox to name a few).
so before you choose to not recycle, to throw everything away indiscriminately, to buy heavily packaged goods at the supermarket...remember how long the crap sticks around for!

last week was spent in my beloved biarritz, SW france, doing lots of surfing, walking, sun-tan lotion applying, and a bit of hitch-hiking (on account of the walking). london is now flooded by the sun, it's daylight by 4:30am, and at sunset the river lights up with millions of bright sparkles. it's pretty cool.
well, it certainly has been a long time since this page was last updated. other additions to the site include two new photography stories, a cleaned up portfolio, and an updated CV. go see downfall, and maria full of grace. avoid hitch, and (in rentals) definitely avoid taxi (queen latifah flick). and after tonight, i'll let you know about either the interpreter, melinda and melida, or the assassination of richard nixon. or all three!
hoorah to another update! and to 2005, which will bring, hopefully, more regular updates, an amazing job, and more fun in london-town! yippeeeekiyay!
at last! i have updated my site! well, no major changes have been made, but at least this page is up-to-date. so, i have been in london since my last entry frantically job-searching, but, alas, to no avail. but i'm told job-hunting is useless in the period coming up to christmas, so i look forward to the new year. still, i've been having an amazing time with old crazy friends and new crazy friends. anyway, so this site will be updated regularly from this point forth. my apologies to mozilla and netscape users. apparently you can't see half my site. i'll try to tweak it. maybe.
so i am flying back to london tomorrow. i leave the boot. the immediate impact this event will have on this website is of a rather passive nature. basically, this site may remain unchanged and not updated for an indefinite period of time. this is primarily due to the fact that i will be rather busy looking for a job and a place to live, and that access to fast computers with great internet connections, as well as photoshop, ssh, etc. will be limited. so, if viewing this website becomes a little monotonous, i am very very sorry. but i wish you lots of love and food. ciao ciao!!!!!
london-town, here i come
" 'But why?', she wanted to know, 'why do I have to run for this flight?'. The high street wasn't going to provide any answers. It was only going to confirm in her mind all that she already knows, which should be good enough. 'Look', he said again, 'do the right thing. Marcus Aurelius believed in simplicity. There's something you wanna say? Say it. Something you gotta do? Do it. No point limiting yourself to the things you should do and say. You'll end up losing things. Just keep it simple, I told you. It's easy.' He hung up before she could come back with an argument which probably wouldn't have made any sense anyway. It was fully understood that what he said is true. Hence, she jumped in front of the first black cab coming her way. Through the rolled down passenger window, she exclaimed, 'Three Fitch Road?'. A nod from the driver was enough of a signal for her to crank that door open and throw herself inside the vehicle."
have just come back from 6 weeks in London. however i lack at this time the words necessary to accurately describe my feelings there and now. have just re-read all my previous entries, and i can't help feeling extremely embarassed and at times even nauseated. g'night.
"It wasn't until the other day that he told her that, essentially, it all makes sense. had i realised it sooner, she thought, i wouldn't have had to sit and think of all the reasons one goes through this! there was no time, however, to keep thinking, to keep constructing on uncertain foundations. the flight was in 2 hours, and with the afternoon traffic, she'd barely arrive at the airport in time for all those pseudo-security checks. after a few frantic and inefficient scans of her room and bag to make sure nothing had been forgotten, left on, left off, or left open, she locked the door behind her, and hurried towards the main street."
have at last begun to update my site today. i'm pretty happy with it, although i'm sure i'll change it again in 2 days. not all sections are complete, but will be in a few days. Projects under way....'26 days in public', '2 minus one', and a collaboration with Taey on a short-length film about the spatial lapses of journeys.
yes. the website needs an overhaul which i will (start and) finish in no less than a month (I'm going away!) it is hot. it is practically summer. all i have to say is, hooray. oh, and....there's really nothing admirable in participating (and possibly winning) an intricate game of violence. it then adds to its foolishness to suddenly criticise the consequences of those actions which concede to participation and (the so-called) victory. do you know what i mean?
march, few words necessary only: venice, emma, thompson, greg, wise, canals, creamyblue, piazza san marco, and milaaan (it's all true, ask kathy!)...april, may, moles must go, europe by rail, trav from the US, yay!
i miss my all my buddies here there and everywhere.
saw big fish last night. yes, perhaps ewan mcgregor can at times be tantalising. yes, it's true, the actor who plays his son, willy crudup, and his son's wife, french actress marion cotillard, are both 200% eye candy. however, the movie essentially did nothing for me, except convice me that going for sushi and sashimi afterwards would be a good idea. hmm kirin.
i have absolutely NOTHING to say.
for this week's weird but cool movie...sin noticias de dios (2001), also known as the movie in which penelope cruz looks the fittest
see previous entry
i think it's official. selfishness is a congenital and terminal disease. those affected by this condition are also known to manifest behaviour of a very immature kind. should you come across this kind of individual, run away. alternatively, kill them. this will be considered self-defence.
yesterday the air smelled of spring, just made you want to stop, close your eyes and take it all in. go see beyond borders and lost in translation.
don't think twice it's alright
got new camera coming home...something i got for free at the fiera dell'antiquariato dei navigli...just had to get it fixed. it's probably older than all the other cameras i use. but it inspires me so much! can't wait. treviso and i need to sort out what on earth we want to do!
whoah. yesterday the flat 2 floors above us starts burning away. as my mother and i were not quite sure how bad the fire really was, we assumed it would get bad...so cats in boxes, we stuck them in the car. i made sure i filled up bag with camera and folder with all my negs, along with watch, phone, and md player. i found the whole experience extremely exciting. when i came back to the flat once the fire upstairs had been put out, i felt really good and...i don't know. excited. totally dumbfounded at the fact that the fire department took 30 mins to get here.
went to local hospital/clinic for some tests. this girl walks out with her dad, after having done a blood test. anyway, she faints away in her dad's totally panicked arms. he obviously needed help. someone to tell him to just chill, to put her lying down, keep her legs up. i know all that. but like several other people in the same room, i kind of stood there for a minute, thinking, 'maybe he needs my help. nah he's fine. would it be weird if i helped him? weird. should i help? after all i know exactly what to do...'. after these useless and time-wasting thoughts, i and a couple of other people helped him, and his daughter. i just wonder why there is a gap of time?
